Girl friendly Latrines Project
Challenge:
Our Recent Mapping Survey has found out that rural schools in Mwanza region do not have access to latrines and where they exist are broke, whereas pupils are forced to resort to open defecation and some leave class lessons to defecate in the forests.
Furthermore, lack of separate and adequate Toilet sanitation for adolescent girls discourages them from attending school during their menses due to failure of meeting hygiene needs which in turn affects their performance and increase school dropping out.
Our Solution:
We are working to construct Ventilated girl friendly Latrine (with changing room) for public schools in Mwanza region. By Building a latrine to public schools, children won’t have to defecate in the open or walk to the nearest forests or communal toilets. This will help to mitigate the spread of diseases and to create a healthier environment for learning at school. Clean and safe latrine is a pre-requisite for health, girls’ dignity, privacy, and education as will create an enabling learning environment.
